Sungkyunkwan University researchers have discovered the possibility of developing a high-performance battery that can travel up to 400km with a single charge. Sungkyunkwan University announced on the 14th that the team of Professor Yoon Won-Seop of the Department of Energy Science(DOES) discovered a key factor breaking the existing stereotypes in studying the characteristics of nickel anode material, which is one of battery core elements of electric car battery.
As the elemental content of nickel increases, the size of the migration path of lithium ions increases and the number of cationic subunits that interfere with lithium migration also decreases. It would be big help to discover high energy material development.\
In the existing academic world, there was a thought that as the nickel content increased, the properties of the crystal structure would be adversely affedted. However, the researchers found that the performance was actually improved.
Sungkyunkwan University explained, "We have discovered the possibility of designing a material capable of high-speed charging and discharging at the atomic level." When the results of this study are applied, it is possible to develop a high-density battery that travels for 400km on an electric charge.
The research team's paper(New Insight into Ni-Rich Layered Structure for Next-Generation Li Rechargeable Batteries)was selected as a cover paper for 'Advanced Energy Materials', a world-renowned journal in the field of materials science.
