The Korea Research Foundation announced the results of the final selection of the Natural Simulation Innovation Technology Development Project on April 16. Prof. Hyun Jeong Shin of Sungkyunkwan University(Energy Science dept.)was seleceted as a project to "develop artificial tissue material processing with biological activity and biocompatibility". This project has been conducted by three research teams last year with the aim of creating new industries through innovation of existing technologies by simulating nature or ecology.
Prof. Hyun Jeong Shin, a member of SKKU I-cube was selected for this project, cooperated with prof. Sang Ho Oh(SKKU), prof. Jung Heon Lee(SKKU), prof. Hyun Suk Jeong(SKKU) and prof. Keung Hyeong Kim(SKKU). Plus, in collaboration with Korea University, Seoul National University, Hanyang University , Dankook University and etc., research eam have organized a process innovation technology development team based on natural simulated material, and will receive research funding of 5.7billion won over the next five years. Particularly, in the field of bone regeneration and artificial bone, CGBio and 'Purugo' Co., Ltd. participated.
Through the achievements of this research project, it is possible to solve the critical size defect problem and to absorb the surgical bone graft materials and metal implant market in the future. But it is expected to bring about a positive economic ripple effect. It is a technology development project of the new industry group which is evaluated as a high-value-added industry with about 100 trillion won market in the global market in the age of aging.
○ Research content
: Development of artificial bone tissue (Bone Tissue) with high biological activity of organic / inorganic complex material with complicated hierarchical structure through simulation of natural ecological / biological mineral production process (Biomineralization)
○ Expected Effect
- It is highly possible to absorb the market of surgical bone graft materials and bone implants by resolving the problem of critical size defect, and it will bring about not only medical achievement but also a positive economic ripple effect by revitalizing the domestic market of futures and global market. Expected.
- Leading high value-added industry of about 100 trillion won
