- Summary:
Simple and low-cost process for micro-scale patterning is attractive for a development of flexible, low-cost, or large-area organic light emitting devices(OLEDs). Indeed, printable material is an essential core as an alternative of expensive mask-aided RGB patterning or multi-stack (tandem) high efficiency white technology for large area OLED devices. In this presentation, material design strategy of the solution-processible organic compounds, its multilayer formation, and an effective ink formulation technology for a stable patterning process are described. For example, blue printed OLEDs, bis(3, 5-di(9H-carbazol-0-yl)diphenylsilane (SimCP2) doped with iridium bis(4, 6-difluorophenypyridinato) picolate (Flrpic) was dissolved in a solvent mixture, and various conditions for the solvent composition and drying of films were examined. Homogeneous dot and line patterns with controllable thickness and smooth surface were obtained from a mixture of solvents at moderate printing speed of the conventional inkjet printing machine. Technical trends of industrial development for printable OLED materials and front-plane panels will be also reviewed as well as focusing on the future insight.
